Nobody likes waiting on a slow site to load. So we built the Member Academy to load blazingly fast. One way we make it fast is by using a technique called caching. You don’t have to be a techy to know about caching a website but it could cause a small issue that would be annoying if you didn’t know about it. So here is what it is and how to fix it.
THE SHORT VERSION:
Hit the Ctrl button and the F5 key simultaneously to clear your cache.
EXPANDED VERSION
Every time you visit a webpage some of that information gets stored in your browser’s memory called cache. So when you visit a website page … then leave it, and then you go back to that web page, rather than re-downloading the entire page from the internet which, takes up time and bandwidth, your browser will show you the version you already saw; the one that’s stored in your cache.
[that’s how cache makes viewing the internet faster: it doesn’t completely reload previously viewed pages ]
A browser can and will hold your history indefinitely. The goal is to help you find your way back to a perhaps-forgotten corner of the internet you visited once upon a time.
Here’s how that could impact you as an member of the program: as you know, our website is for members only, if you are not logged in you don’t see the program material. SO if the webpage you saw before you logged in was the public version that does not show the program material, after you logged in your browser may not serve you the entire page with member content…. it may show you the public page you were on before logging in.
So that’s a lot of words, don’t be turned off. There is a simple solution. All you need to know is if you visited a page before logging in you’ll need to refresh that page when you go back to it in order to see the private member only content. And you refresh your screen by hitting the F5 key on your window keyboard or Command R on a mac. Or you could hit the refresh symbol on your browser. have Graces finger do it
This is really only an issue if you didn’t log in from your Dashboard. Or if you don’t regularly clear out your browser cache – which you SHOULD do regularly, just like getting an oil change is proper maintenance for your car. If you’re not clearing your browser cache you can learn how by typing into your search bar ‘how to clear my cache in’ .. then your browser name (firefox, chrome, internet explorer, …)
For example, in Google Chrome you would go to the three-dot menu at the upper-right of Chrome to select Settings > Advanced > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data or History > History > Clear browsing data or More tools > Clear browsing data. Or type “chrome://settings/clearBrowserData” in the omnibar (without the quotation marks).
[If you want more on what is cache search ‘what is cache’]
So let’s do a live example and I can show you it in 20 seconds: say I logged in from one of the training course modules and I get directed to dashboard. Then I could just hit the backspace button to go back to that course. If I don’t see the member-only content I simply refresh that page in order to see my private member-only content and downloads.
Again you don’t have be a computer tech but if you are ever logged in but you don’t see the program content hit Ctrl + F5.
So after you’re logged in and refreshed next up is explaining how the content format is laid out.
So with that said, take a look around the Member Academy’s world-class courses in the Member Dashboard
