For the past several decades North America was virtually bed bug free. Infestations were so rare that entomologists and exterminators had never seen a live specimen. No longer a public health threat people believed they were just an imaginary specter from the bedtime phrase, “…sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite!”
That has all changed. They are back and stronger than ever. The 2023 Bugs Without Borders survey found 97% of pest control professionals treated for bed bugs in past year.
Bed bugs have made a dramatic resurgence because they have developed resistance to the over-the-counter pesticides. Couple that with:
1.) the transient nature of our society,
2.) increased domestic and international travel, and
3.) governmental restrictions on the insecticide DDT
We now have a recipe for the rapid spread of bed bugs infestations and bed bugs are being found in hotels, shelters, movie theaters, hospitals, universities, schools, apartments, restaurants and homes. Bed bugs don’t discriminate, and will infest any human dwelling, from the most cramped student apartment to the most luxurious five-star hotel.
Bed Bugs Earns Title Perfect Hitch Hiker
Bed bugs are difficult to control because they are so skilled at hiding, which allows them to travel undetected in our clothing, luggage, furniture, electronics, vehicles, …
Most people don’t realize they have visited somewhere with an infestation, and bring the bed bugs back to their residence. And once the bed bugs are picked up, they continue to breed spread and hide.
Landlords are at a Huge Risk
The high cost of remediation of Fort Wayne bed bugs and the potential for re-infestation will wreck havoc on landlords: reducing cashflow, more vacancies and the risk of lawsuits.
Landlords need clear policies and paperwork in place for the coming epidemic:

2.) When a property is infested, how will you remediate them, and
3.) Who pays for what

Fort Wayne Bed Bugs don’t stand a chance when John gets mad. And he has a lot to share with Fort Wayne landlords and property managers about the Fort Wayne Bed Bugs epidemic. John cautions, “This is not your typical bug problem, if you attempt to treat it like you do other bugs, it will not solve the problem. It will only get worse.”
Fact Verses Fiction
The presence of Fort Wayne bed bugs in human dwellings is not caused by a lack of cleanliness. They are an equal opportunity pest that only requires a warm, sleeping body and a place to hide nearby. Bed bugs have been found in both five-star hotels and homeless shelters.
Landlord Ordered to Pay Tenant $800K
Last week, a Maryland court ruled that the landlord had known about the bedbug infestation and, after deliberating for just 45 minutes, the jury awarded the tenant $800,000 in damages—more than twice the amount she had requested.
Bedbug Traps and Powders Exist but Only Make It Worse
“Controlling, let alone eradicating, this pest is extremely difficult,” the NPMA says on its website. Bedbug-infested homes must be steam-cleaned and vacuumed repeatedly but, even then, bedbugs can cling to rough surfaces, and vacuuming with a regular household machine can actually spread the bugs from one area to another.
As usual, education is the answer. And those that apply their education will profit the most. Build your knowledge base and wealth by learning this little known area of real estate.
